Governments continue to push for e-Invoicing mandates amid economic uncertainty - Order2Cash

The business world is currently witnessing a swift organizational restructuring, as organizations and governments react to the pressures of the current pandemic and try to rapidly install or improve their digital supply-chain processes. There is current evidence of delays to invoice processing caused by remote working and the logistical handling of paper-based documents. These current dislocations act as a catalyst to digitize, as we will live with the new conditions for some time to come. Never have the arguments been so persuasive for removing paper and replacing it with safe, secure, and reliable e-processes. e-Invoicing provides full legal and commercial certainty and is easy to use. With all this in mind, it’s clear to see why governments in many countries continue to push for mandatory e-Invoicing and tax reform, especially throughout the Middle East and Asia. As usual, we have gathered the latest news around global e-Invoicing mandates regulations to keep you up to speed with the current e-Invoicing developments.

Why countries should build an interoperable Electronic Invoicing System into WTO e-commerce negotiations

As we have highlighted elsewhere, many countries continue to push for mandatory e-Invoicing, primarily as a way of combatting tax evasion. However, as more countries create their own e-Invoicing frameworks, there’s a potential they could enact country-specific technical standards that act as a barrier to digital trade. Nigel Cory, writing for the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation has written of why governments should start to think beyond their own internal boundaries and embrace greater interoperability.
